I’m currently recapping this National NC/57. This has a scratch on the case. I guess I can sand this out and just do a small touchup.

Not only is the paint chipped out but it has dent that will need to be pushed, or pounded out. The set must have been dropped, and landed on the band switch knob, hopefully pushing the knob back, and denting the cabinet is the extent of the damage.

Yea. I think a repaint is order.
I probably have a spare bandswitch knob somewhere. Since this is an AA-5 type design I plan to drop a Triad x35 isolation transformer in this. The other design element I want to change is add some connectors so you can easily remove the speaker. As I’m reading this the filter choke goes to the pins 3 and 4 of the 6V6 audio output tube. Running two wires topside on the chassis will make that easier. At some point the speaker dies - that way it can be replaced without taking the chassis off. I’m debating replacing the dials. Reproductions are available, but I’d have to get a rivet tool.

As far as the cabinet condition, try cleaning it with Goop (non-pumice) hand cleaner and 0000 steel wool. GENTLY! You'll be amazed how much dirt will come off. Wipe it down with soft rags. It will still have some battle scars, but a lot of the smudges should come off. At this point what is there to lose? - Gary

I have some of that so I’ll try it. That works great on my Philcos. This radio was a gift from a friend of mine so I’m trying to make
I’m trying to find if there’s a readily available grey paint that matches.
