Philco 41 280 Floor radio-new project.

Just picked this up locally. No power cord. When I tested the tubes I think I know why. 3 bad tubes, 2 shorted, and 1 barely good tube. I have bought a lot of recap kits form Hayseed Hamfest. They don't list Philcos, although they have made electrolytics for one of mine. See pics

Hello willits18,
First of all I wanted to say welcome to our little forum.
over all that set does not look in to bad of shape First thing I would do is get good schematic diagram of that set and myself I like to take a lot photos and notes along with marking wires and parts .

Sincerely Richard

Rough but restorable.
The rubber wiring seems to be in OK shape; the white wires often stay pliable and do not need to be replaced.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

I have a roll of "old" cloth power cord I am going use to replace the power cord. I know these had the rubber kind but it makes it look more nostalgic.  I will see if Hayseed can make the electrolytics. I have the yellow film caps.

I was not able to download a schematic and parts list so I bought a 1941 Philco manual on CD.

Hello Willits18,
Sounds like you are getting head of the game I sure that CD will come in handy for future projects too.
Sincerely Richard

I agree a CD of schematics will be very useful. Just so folks know, our library does have schematics and the link to this one is:

Thanks Bob. I kept getting a second party download intervention when I tried to access the schematic. Not sure what I did wrong?

The most common cause for that which I have seen is a browser which blocks a download from an "https" site which has an irregular or invalid https protocol. Another possible cause would be the security software on your computer.

I second what Dale suggested.
Check the settings of whatever security software you have, or your OS settings.
They might turn out to be overly stringent.
