Hello,
I am in the process of checking out a Philco 45L. My question is does this model suffer from the Philco coil rot like others do (60s 89s).
Thanks,
Dan

Dan;
I don't think that the model 45 is especially know for coil problems, not that they can't occur for one reason or another, like a shorted capacitor, or lightening strike, etc. I think that the 45s also have a proper oscillator rather then an autodyne oscillator like the model 89s. From what I read the issue in the 89s isn't the "green death" so much as the autodyne oscillator refusing to work because of absorbing moisture. With model 60s it's part of the antenna coil primary that likes to open up, usually the portion for the old "police band".
