Philco 90 grille cloth question
#1

Hi everyone,
I had a question about if Philco used different styles of grille cloth during a production run. I picked up a mid production Philco 90 cathedral and it has a different pattern grille cloth than what I am used to seeing? The cloth that was in the set is worn and faded and appears to be the original, it is glued to the factory backer board. It has a diamond pattern that I've never seen in the Philco 90's. I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on this. I will try and attach a picture of the cloth design. Any input would be great, thanks!

I personally have never seen that pattern used in any Philco sets.

Possibly the cloth was changed early in the radio's life, due to an "incident" with childrens fingers or pet claws. So, that may be why its faded.

Still part of history, looks fine, could be kept.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Brad,

It's the oldest excuse: "The dog ate my grille cloth. "

I would save it for another set, if still usable, it looks like something more appropriate for a console model. Philco used a diamond pattern in some models, but they were smaller then that.

What if Philco got their hands on some batch of diamond-pattern grille cloth cheap enough, used it one-off, and then got back to their usual patterns?
Philco was known to mix and match things.
