Value of caps in block?????
#1

I have a Philco model 345,,, code 122 radio..I believe that the radio is Canadian. I took one of the baklite blocks apart and inside ,,there are two caps marked '''9'',and ''10''. The schematics show that this whole cap is .09 mf... I do not know what to put in the block because there are two caps in it. These two caps have no value printed on them
On the schematic of my radio it is #22 and the part number is 3615W
I hope I have made myself clear,if not please let me know..thanks Dan

According to the information I have, and what Chuck has on his site, a 3615W only has one capacitor inside, a .05 uF.

Are you sure it is 3615W?

Ron I must say that I am sorry but I made a mistake in the numbers of the block... The proper number is 4989Z which[using the info you gave me ] transfers to a number of 4989 odg...If I have this right it means that I can put two caps of .10 in the block and hook them up to the same pins as the old ones.. According to what I see it is #1 to #5 and #2 to #3...[.Pin #1 and #2 are connected and go to ground] WOULD THIS BE CORRECT?
Once again I am sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you,I will be more carefull with my numbers next time. Thank you Dan

Dan - No problem, really. Icon_smile

I see Chuck doesn't have 4989-Z listed on his site.

I don't have the Philco Condensers And More book by Ray Bintliff, but I have an earlier edition - The Radio Collector's Guide to Philco Bakelite Block Condensers, 2nd Edition.

See drawing below.

According to the book I have, terminals 1 and 8 are connected to common ground.

One .09 uF cap connects from 8 to 7.

The other .09 uF cap connects from 8 to 5.

Rons info is exactly correct according to my Ray Bintliff "Philco Condensers & More" 2nd edition book.

if someone has the older book (wink Wink Ron) can you check the values on a 6287-G the new yellow book lists it as a 0.05 and 0.0.15

Using the diagram in my previous post as a guide, the 0.15 uF cap connects between terminals 8 and 7, while the .05 uF cap connects between 8 and 5.

With apologies... securing a digital copy of that B.B.C. for note-taking when rebuilding. Icon_thumbup
