Emerson model 541 - "Special Capacitor"?
#1

I'm working on an Emerson 541 radio for a friend, and it seems to have one of those "special capacitors" - wire wound around the outside of the cap. Would like advice on how I can source a replacement.

I spoke with someone that sells capacitors for old radios and they said that their mylar caps have "inductive properties", I'm assuming the intent behind these capacitors is that they are tuned to eliminate a particular frequency. I'm thinking that a capacitor with "inductive properties" would not be tuned for the particular application I'm looking for, right?

I saw a post in the forums on making replacement special capacitors, but required O-scope and Signal Generator. I have neither.

It is shown in the schematic as C19. It's a .2 mfd.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Just replace it with a modern one of the same value. Don't worry about the winding, it was to prevent interference with long gone navigtion beacons near the IF frequency.
