41-295 Developed Intermittent Crackling
#1

I electronically restored a 41-295. It has recently developed a crackling sound. It sometimes levels off when it's tuned to a station, but will excite back up when going down the dial. I have replaced almost all the caps except three mica caps, and I've replaced all the resistors. I've probed around looking for sold solder joints or anything loose, but have not found anything conclusive. Besides the crackling it's a fantastic set. Receives well and sounds wonderful. Any tips from the Philco experts out there on this cracking?

Could be a bad mica but I'd grab the tracer poke around till I found the problem.

Only 3 mica caps to go? Replace 'em. But only after the gentle tapping and probing with a dry old chopstick reject from the kitchen. I assume that tube pins, sockets and switches have received their once every 50 years Deoxit shower.

Else you may be poking around until next Christmas.
