My 39-45 bandswitch had been neutered
#1

Literally neutered. Icon_eek Both balls that provide the detent action are gone. The part that they go on to is still there. Anybody know what I can use for a replacement?

Odd set, almost all of the rubber wiring is in very good shape. I had to replace the 2 wires to the pilot lamp and rebuild its base and one of the dial lamps base (the other had been replaced). replaced 2 of the 3 filter caps that had been changed in the 60's and 2 .01 papers as I was working in that spot. ( and yes I will change the others) but the thing is playing like new.

I don't know how the switch looks, but in many switches using spring-and-ball detention, those balls are usually the same as those in some ball bearings, so if this is it, then you could get a ball bearing, get balls from there, and get your switch all...ballsy again.

A junker bandswitch from any radio, of the same general size switch, regardless of contact/wafer arrangement should provide the detent balls.
