Philco 51 lowboy DONE
#1

This set came out of a damp basement after a CL p/u of another radio. The speaker cone had multiple tears that got the coffee filter repairs and it sounds great. The finish was in must-strip condition. According to the Philco photo gallery, this model was not offered for very long. Here's the before:

And here's the after:

And for comparison, my shortest Philco console meets my tallest:

Wow, what a lovely job you did to restore that radio. Looks great, hope my 111 comes out looking that good.

FWIW, I did what would normally not be recommended! I quickly stripped this in about an hour and a half, first thing in the morning. A hour later, I stained the whole thing with alcohol based mahogany dye. An hour later, I rattle-can sprayed the whole thing with Deft sanding sealer. An hour after that, I filled the top only. All on the same day. 2 days later, I hit it with 2 shots of rattle-can Mohawk Perfect Brown, followed by 3 coats of Deft gloss and ending with one coat of semi-gloss. The results were fine.
