Well, couldn't get the top to were I wanted it so time to take it down. Now I have gotten rid of the dang stain. This is it after a shot of shellac to seal the existing finish and then to move on to some lacquer. Pretty happy with it, after a coat or two of lacquer, will see if I want to perhaps darken it a little with some transtint mixed with lacquer to make up a little toner. The light areas are after a little steel wool and I should have done a wipe to remove the little bit of residue in the low areas of the grain. Should fill in with some lacquer and waiting and sanding some more.
Any body looking who may have a label for the top of the the Philco 111 tube shield and could shoot me a good pic would be greatly appreciated. One of the final touches to the "cabinet" so to speak. Here is a picture of the tube shield. The label missing (I have made a reproduction for the one on the rear) is the one on the top. Larger and apparently contains the tube layout. Hope someone has one to share. Things like this need to be archived on the Phorum as reproduced. Others certainly have the same problem. Happy to clean up a good picture and post for others.

My 112 has the back label but not the one on top. The top one would be the same as a 111.

Right you are TA, assuming it was an early 112 with the 45s. Later, the one I have have (recalling) 42s. My 112 didn't have one of these labels either. Wonder why none have survived? A nice picture of either would be great to make a new label.
Someone out there has to have something they can take a picture of. Regards, Jerry A friend in need is a pest! Bill Slee ca 1970.

Hello Jerry: if you have a model 112 with 42s, it is probably a model 15.
I have the PP45 model 112 BelGeddes model. For now I am running a model 112 chassis with the PP47s in my model 111. When I stop procrastinating and address the 111 chassis, I will retire the PP47 112 chassis until I find a cabinet for it.

Sorry TA, I was thinking from my memory. I misspoke. After looking at my book I put together on my 112, there are an early version and a later version. The earlier had the 45s. The later, which I have ran 47s. I was so happy when I bought my 112 to find it used the 47s. Much cheaper to replace than the 45s. Don't ask me how I know. Sorry about the comment about 42s, just a brain fart.

I regularly suffer from brain flatulence. It comes with the territory when you become a senior citizen.

We all have that problem TA. Thanks for looking. Seems those labels don't survive. Just hoping someone out there has a shield with one on top. Even if it just a partial, if I can get the color and style, probably reproduce a reasonable one using the tube layout diagram it the service information. Some one out there has to have something they can shoot a picture of, I hope.

Well, done and playing nicely. Thought I would post a couple of pictures. Still missing the label on the top of the tube shield which no one apparently has one they could shoot a picture of.
I did refinish the top as I could not get the water ring to look right. The rest of the cabinet other than the very bottom of the legs is original. The bottom of the legs were pretty beat up, perhaps by a vacuum cleaner bumping into them for many years. The old girl shows some bumps and grinds but is original for the most part, with just some cleaning and a little wax. Thank you all for your suggestions. You may want to try Black Patinating Wax. I have used it on Victrola cabinets often to darken small areas - would probably work good on the area you are concerned about.....

I once had a model 211 which was very similar to Jerry's set but included an RP up top and shorter legs. 11 tube chassis and RP.
I bought it from Tom the Wom and several years later sold it to a big Philco collector an hour North of Fort Wayne Indiana. I believe this was the original finish and you can see the similarities to Jerry's 111 set. The quality and eye appeal of the cabinetry was exquisite. When I received the set, the chassis had shifted in the wood shipping box and the tone control shaft was sheared off. I later had it restored by Dennis Williams in Orlando and he subbed in a variable tone control which worked much nicer as compared to the preset stepped control original to the chassis.
