First Philco Restoration Finished
#1

Hi Guys, I have been hard at work electronically restoring a 38-93 I own. This will be my third restoration in six months, and my first Philco project. The other two being AA5's. This set plays great for a 5 tube set. I have re-stuffed both paper caps, electrolytic and two Bakelite blocks. All were pretty simple to do, I couldn't of done it without Chuck's wonderful Philco Repair Bench website. I am posting a before and after picture below. Such a nice little set to retore and it sure sounds great. let me know what you guys think.

I think I am ready to take on that 15x I own Icon_biggrin.

Nice job! The little ones give you the confidence to do the big guys! That reminds me got two 37-116 to do...
Have fun!

I also have that set, basic, but I have always liked that simple look. Mine had the dial foil trashed, yours looks better. Pretty good sounding set with a short antenna. Enjoy.

Nice restoration. I just began a 38-93 last weekend but I work in my spare time so it takes 4+ months to do a radio. My gold dial foil is more tarnished than yours. Did you do anything special to shine it up without damaging the markings?

Very good!!! Glad to have you on board, this site and Chuck's site are the place to go to for great Philco info!

Thank you all. Steve D, this is how the condition of the dial was when I bought it, I did not do anything to clean it up except to brush off the dust.

I'll bet if you try to do any sort of cleaning to it it will destroy it. It does look like the same dial that is used of the farm version. Maybe you can find one of those cheap.

Agree with Terry: these things have a habit of turning up, you should be able to find a suitable donor set for your dial.

Yes I would agree, I have seen Many 38-93's. They are nice little sets, I still dont know if I want to keep this one or not.
