Philco 112 highboy found
#1

If anybody wants one, there is a Philco 112 higboy in an antique shop in Yucco Valley, California. I told the manager/owbner that the $450 price was a factor of ten too high. However, the cabinet can be saved without refinishing, a big plus. Just some touch-up to the legs would be needed. I suspect this may be one of the models with transformers which go bad with green corosion on the wires. Is it?

Less likely in the 112, but the "green disease" does sometimes strike 112 coils, also.

$450...yikes! Icon_eek

I had one of those for awhile...passed it on to another Phorum member...who passed it on to yet another Phorum member. So it slowly made its way from central to southern Indiana, and then to North Carolina by way of the Cincinnati area. Very nice-looking sets, and uncommon as well, but not $450 uncommon.

If it was closer and cheaper, I would have been tempted to leap on it. Going to thin my herd down to mostly my Philcos anyways depending on my mood next year.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Those are a nice looking cabinet, designed by Norman Bell Geddes I think, but unlike some industrial designers there hasn't been a pseudo radio collector/antique dealer attempting to start a cult following with the man's work. I actually wouldn't mind getting one of the 112s, they used a pan chassis similar to the one in my Philco 96 but were superheterodynes, I'm not paying $450 for one though, maybe $150 at most if it was in really good shape, unrestored but sort of playing.

Maybe I'll add the Philco 112 to my bucket list. Icon_smile
