Philco 38-116 Question
#1

A couple here as I work to restore the above radio.
1: The first audio tube installed is a 6Q7, listed should be a 6R7, the radio works so I assume this is an OK replacement?
2: The part in the pictures attached came with the radio, I'm thinking an antenna transformer for what they appear to have sold as an option on the radio? Not sure what the antenna option looked like.
Thanks for you help.

Tube sub is OK in this application. No clue on the other item

Thanks Codefox, but you have to admit the pictures came out nice! I guess we have to hear from a "higher" authority on the pics. I believe it was part of the radio antenna system at some point in time. The advertising suggests an optional antenna. Perhaps part of it?

Hi jerry,
You may be right about it being part of an antenna. i have a 1938 Philco high efficiency aerial kit in the original box. There is a part that looks similiar but not the same. Must be a coil or transformer of some kind. Good luck with your 38-116, i have a 37-116 that I'm trying to work up the nerve to work onIcon_lol

Thanks Silverstreak for the pictures. Nice little package you have there. Looks to be an outdoor type antenna of a long line type. If indeed the item shown in the above pictures is an antenna coupler, it seems it might have been made for some type of loop? I could be wrong, and often am. The wires color seem to matched with indications on the rear of the 38-116, leaving the two screw terminals for possibly a loop. Any comments from the rest of the gurus? Then again, this may not have been part of the radio..

Jerry, I think your unit may be a balun for a competing (non-Philco) dipole antenna. There are no markings on the cylinder with the PHILCO name or any obvious Philco part numbers in the xx-xxxx format, correct?

Thanks Ron, you are correct in that there is no Philco identifying marks. Just the "222" stamped on the top and a patent number. Also the following "LIC. A.A.K."
