buying radios. I have a ton of these sitting here and have pretty much acquired all the ones I wanted and then some.
Just got a late 1935 16B off the bay. Whilst perusing CL ads, I hit upon an antique shop in Concord, NH that advertised old radios. After a week or so I decided to call yesterday and asked if they had any tube radios. He puts me on hold while he goes to look, comes back on and says "I have a Philco 16B tombstone and a Philco chairside." Well I about fell out of my chair, then I thought I don't believe I just bought one and now here is another one right in my back yard so to speak.
Needless to say I got in the car today and drove to Concord. Sure enough that's what he had. The chairside is a 38-7. There was also a nice turn of the last century German westminster chime clock. So he calls the dealer and gets the absolute best price....which I didn't think was the absolute best price for me. Looked the radios over again and pointed out there was some delamination on the RH side of the 16B case, a crack on the top and I thought there was a piece missing from the dial.
So I made an offer. He called the seller back and my offer was accepted.
Now the minus side to this is not having been in Concord for quite a number of years, and seeing as we have no parking meters in Claremont, I didn't give it a second thought when I parked and saw no meters. However, they DO have metered parking........it's just not what I readily recognized. There is a post that says "pay here" not "metered parking pay here" not "parking pay here" just "pay here". So I got a $10 parking ticket for not "paying here". Did tell the shop owner that maybe if someone from out of town rolls in like I did after calling maybe they should mention there is "pay here" parking. Also told the lady at the police station as well.
Anyway here are the pics of my latest acquisitions. OH, and the only other two radios left to get are my 38-116 and my 38-690 which I am in the process of making arrangements for. Then I need to start in working on all of these.
P.S. check out the packing this lady did on the 16B chassis!! Shipped the set in three boxes and is the absolute finest packing I have ever seen!
