That would be no problem, since there isn't anything either side of 1500. Thanks exray! I have to get a project off my bench, then I will try making a toroid coil and trimmer. How many turns of wire should I use on the toroid?

Use a -61 ferrite core. That's the most important. Can be any size. FT50-61 would be the minimum size (0.500 inches) , FT82-61 is a good compromise (0.82 inches).
Since we're only tuning one freq at the high end of the band use about 40-50 turns (not terribly critical) of small wire like 28 or 30 gauge. Use a 100pf trimmer cap for tuning.

Sounds good! There's a surplus store nearby that has those ferrite cores in bulk. And cheap!
