Bought one of this off ebay for $20 but the cabinet is in pieces. (Some of it happened due to the person shipping it improperly even though I specified how to pack up the radio Icon_mad Was told the radio does worked but have not recapped it. What is the chance of finding a decent cabinet for this model or repairing the cabinet. The damage is extensive in my mind. Would any one be willing to restore the cabinet for me? I think I can do the electronics but have never done cabinet repair.

thanks

Hi Chris

Ah, the clueless ebay sellers that do not give a D**n about anything except collecting the $$$. Frustrating, isn't it? Especially when you suggest to them how to pack, even offer extra $$ for extra packaging...and they ignore you anyway and just throw it in a box with minimal (or sometimes NO) packing material. Icon_evil Far too many eBay sellers fall into this category, unfortunately. Of course, I think just ONE incident like this is too many. One man's opinion. That's all.

Never believe anyone who says the radio "works" unless you know the seller personally, or by reputation, to be an honest person. I have found that in the world of most eBayers, "working" means "the tubes light up and the dial lamp lights up and it may or may not smoke but I won't tell you that part."

How about some photos? Would you be willing to divulge the eBay item number so we can all see what you bought? This will help in determining if the cabinet is salvageable.

Ron,
Here is the link. I was able to get a partial refund of $10 on the item but the cabinet is a mess. You can see some of the damage but the cabinet is coming apart. Were these sets nailed together or glued. The veneer is curling in some areas. Will try and take some pictures. How do I post pictures on the forum?

Ah, a 60MB. Neat, I always felt that cabinet design was definitely European-influenced. You did very well on that, even if the cabinet does need major work. Someone recently sold just the chassis to a 60 for around $56 or so Icon_exclaim which I feel is WAY out of line for just a non-working 60 chassis. Somebody wanted that one pretty badly. But I digress...

Veneer was glued to the substrate; some trim pieces were nailed on with very small nails or glued on, depending on the radio.

Cabinet looks repairable to me. Lotsa nicks but re-stregthening the joints does not look insurmountable from the ebay pics. I have a 66MB too with an un-restored chassis on the back-back-back burner. Unique design.
