i have kind of been trying to identify this Philco radio. i think it is a 33 or 34 but am not quite sure. i also wouldn't mind knowing what others think it is worth as it sits.

i plugged it in and you could see the 2 tubes start to glow and one of the tubes inside one of the metal things started to glow. speaker also was humming.

Yours looks to be a Canadian 1933 Model 319A which is equivalent to a USA 1933 Model 19L ( see: http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1933d.htm and http://www.philcoradio.com/world/images/canindex.pdf ) Don't plug it in again until the capacitors have been replaced, it could damage some of the components.

thanks. i don't think i would really want to plug it in again. i know i won't be replacing the capacitors. i would rather leave it to someone who is more capable of doing this stuff. any idea what it might be worth in it's current state?

In it's current condition, I would guess $40 to $75 at the most.

Hi Crazzywolfie,

You have a 19L that I have never seen anywhere. Notice how it's all cabinet with very little radio inside? The same cabinet was used for a few larger Philco chassis, such as the 14, 16, 17 and 18.

Is there any chance I could get you to send me larger, and better, photos of this radio? Sure, it needs a fair amount of work in its current condition, but it needs to be documented, and I would really like to be able to show photos of an actual set instead of the illustration currently here:

By the way, I concur with Philco281989 on the rough value estimate - it may be a rare radio but it is not highly desirable, plus yours does need a fair amount of work.

thanks. i was almost thinking $20 would get rid of it fairly quick. i know my mom doesn't want it kicking around but i hate through stuff out especially when it could possibly make a bit extra money which i could always use.

is any of the picture i took what you are looking for or would you want something more straight on? if not i could try taking some better pictures tomorrow.

More straight on, showing the entire radio, plus 3/4 views from the left and right, and a shot of the back showing the entire back would be perfect. 1000 pixels or more in width; larger is better. I sent you an email with my email address to send the pictures to. Thanks!

In that case I think your original thinking about a price of between $20 and $40 is about right given the condition. From what people have told me there are a lot of console radios in Southern Ontario.
