Just picked this old guy form a friend of mine. Had to do a little talking but he was very generous and it followed me home. I'm really surprised at how heavy that little back ache in a steel box is. Must be 60 pnds or more!

Hummmmm.. Why did they make this radio cabinet out of steel? Does anyone have one in their collection? And if so how do they sound? I do not know if I would be so interested in buying one..

Heck of a lot easier to do the finishing work on and it's cheap. All I can tell you is you better wear a doodad protector if your going to pick it up!! I had one years ago, it was a brown wrinkle job with a single 71 in the audio think it was a 52 ( this has P/P 71's) Best I can remember it use a cone speaker like the mdl 40. Sounded like a model 40. This set has a dynamic speaker so it should sound pretty good for 1929 technology. Between the larger power supply and the electrodynamic speaker it's a killer to move.

Nice 1929 Atwater Kent model 53! I have a 1928 AK model 52, which is just slightly different.

Had a little time to kill so I took a look at the AK53. Did a cursory checkover. Found that set is DOA after installing a new CC line cord. Tube filaments OK P/S OK too. Driver transformer open secondary. P/S has some Extra caps add to it. Will have to figure out what is going on there.Seems like there maybe an open resistor in the P/S as all voltage seem very high. Also checked the FC and it's fine!! Oh and the grid leak is open Surprize!!!. Will run over to Stinko's and make some XL prints of the diagrams old peepers any what they use to be.
