Philco Accessory Speaker?
#1

I recently heard that Philco produced an accessory speaker and cabinet that matched the model 45. The radio and the speaker were sometimes sold as a set. My 45 has a speaker jack in the rear. Did Philco make an accessory speaker? Anyone got any links to a photo?

Where did you hear that?

That's news to me...I have never heard of, nor seen, such a thing...

I actually saw one. It was not for sale. I was told that it was produced by Philco, but I am wondering if it was custom made. It was definitely old. The guy had a 45 sitting on top of it, and it was plugged into the speaker jack on the back of the 45. It had the same grill pattern and grill cloth as the 45, but it was about twice the size of the radio. The man who owns it has an extensive Philco collection.

I think what you may have seen was a 29TX:

As you will see, the receiver is similar in style to the 45, and does have a floor-standing separate speaker.

That's the cabinet! .. It was certainly one of the coolest things I've seen. I regret not taking pictures of it. Thanks Ron.
