37-690
#1

Been looking for a 37-690 for a while and found a beautiful original today for a great price. Plays but needs electrical restoration as it is completely original. Came with the dealers hanging tag!

Should be a very nice performer, and cabinet is beautiful!

Great find thirtiesradio, +1 on codefox1 comments. Good luck.

That looks great. Both of mine the finish is darker, figure it is due to age. I am refinishing the worst of the two now. One was restored and the other is completely original electronically from what I can tell.

If you get a chance could you take a couple of pictuers of the top and the dealers tag? I have not seen one of those yet.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments and schematic!

Here is a photo of one side of the cardboard hanging tag. The reverse has lots of "radio features" info.
I'll get a good photo for you of the top when I have light tomorrow.

Thanks. That is nice. Will have to look for one to hang on mine.

Great score! I am drooling over the radio and the jukeboxes. ;)

No matter where you go, there you are.

Hi Jayce. Yes they are fun but they sure take up a lot of room Icon_mad

Nice score. I'm jealous!

I'm always on the lookout for a 37/38 -690, or a 116X.

Thank you all for the replies... I've collected jukeboxes for 25 years. I don't think any of my jukes have a cabinet as nice as this Philco!

Wow! What a schematic! Did you know that in 1937 WLW, at least, was hi fi? Maybe other clear channel stations also had permission for 10 kHz audio bandwidth. WLW ran 500,000 Watts and used a 250,000 Watt high-level modulator that was flat from 60 Hz to 10 kHz. In those days music was live and sounded WONDERFUL. Playing of commercially-pressed records was illegal.

Hi Bill.
Great info on the stations back in 1937! Yes it is a complex set. I did the chassis on my 38-690 last year. I took my time and got the large schematic and info from Chuck Schwark at the Philco repair bench. Well worth it. At least this 37 set works fairly well which is a surprise since it is all original. I'm going to wait until it is restored before I fire it up again.

Wow Icon_eek That finish is amazing. I've got along way to go to get my garage found 37-690 looking half as good!
