question
#1

i assume my 42-1010 may have the bad rubber wire in it but would my 46-1209 have it as well [ looks as if some has been replaced already] whats the chances of this david

No, 1946 models used wiring with improved insulation made of some sort of plastic - not rubber. It has not (yet) dried out over the decades as rubber did, but it does have a low melting temperature, so you have to be careful while soldering.

Post war Philcos (U.S ones) used vinyl covered wire, some Canadian made ones used cloth covered, both pre and post war as they used domestic suppliers of wire. That is except for parts imported from the U.S such as IF cans. So what you think is new wire in the 46-1209 may be original.
