#1

Well, I don't have a Philco, maybe s Philco similar to this RCA

I love the older Philco sets as much as the next guy, but I'll be watching it on my Panasonic plasma TV. Sorry, HD has spoiled me, at least for sports watching.

No joy watching the super bowl on a B/W TV. Sorry, my big screen in color.Icon_thumbdown

We have barn owls, hoot owls, and a few of them there spotted owls. Can't say as I watch any of them very much. But I might watch a superb owl on the big ol' Panasonic plasma screen.

Phlog, I was thinking the same thing! Unfortunately I have not seen any owls around lately. Even the bats seem to have disappeared.Icon_clap
I just didn't want to say anything although the title of the thread did suck me in.

No owls. No bats.
Heck, the Broncos didn't even show up.

It's not how bad you mess up, it's how well you can recover.

The way this stinker of a game turned out I would have been better off watching it on the 3" screen of my little Pilot T.V., and without the magnifier.

I wasn't overly interested in the super bowl, but i thought it was a good excuse to fire up the Philco 51-T1601

Well, I think we all agree it was not really a game, more of a blow out. If you are a Seattle fan you should have enjoyed it. If you were a Bronco's fan you should go hide your head in shame, the way they played they should not have even been there.
Still looked better on a large screen HD TV with friends over. Even the commercials were sub standard.

A "Superb Owl"? Hmm...gonna have to look into that one..

Another superb owl is coming up, anyone with a newly restored Philco to watch it on?
#12

Well I have 2 newly restored Philco's that I love to watch old movies on. But when it comes to the superb owl, I'll be planted in front of a 240 htz Sony 46" in High Def. Old movies and TV shows are one thing, but flight of super owls and the pageantry of the games they play I have to go modern. The refresh rate is unbelievable and I'm still amazed at today's high definition capability.
I don't mess around when it comes to watching football.

The Superb Owl made it in the New York Times front page today!  https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/01/sport...b-owl.html

It doesn't mention me, and I have no way of knowing if I first invented it or not. [Image: http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/imag...iggrin.gif] If I did, I release it to the public domain. But if someone else wrote it before I did, I can't. [Image: http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/imag...rgreen.gif]

About ten years ago the NFL was making advertisers stop saying "Superbowl" in their commercials. So most went to "the big game". To make some fun of this I thought up "Superb Owl" [Image: http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/imag...rgreen.gif] There was one commercial for chip dip or some such food item for football games that said "That would be super, like a bowl of our dip..." So I thought up "Superb Owl" [Image: http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/imag...iggrin.gif] And started a yearly tradition of asking the lame question..... If I want to watch some really superb owls, I go to Hooters.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
