Hi everyone, I have a chance at a620 tombstone and I am asking does anyone here have any experience with this model? Is it a good performer? The cabinet is fair so I am wondering if it is worth bidding on ( local auction house ) and what would be a fair price ? Thanks
They are nice radios and good performers. It's hard to say how much it's worth without seeing it. If it's in good condition, I would say $100 or less would be a good price. The cabinets are pretty easy to restore (as long as all of the parts are there). Good luck buying it! Post some photos if you get it.
Well I won the auction for this 620B today...$80! So now I will have to do a quick once over to see if I need anything special before going to Kutztown.
Hi TA, that's good to hear that it is a good set. +1 on the RF deck thing. Right now I'm in the beginning stages of restoring a 37-116 and that tuner is a bear. But I will be going to Kutztown Friday to get some parts. The 620 is missing an 80 and 3 other tubes have loose or detached grid caps. Never did cabinet restoration before but this will get my first!
That radio looks to be in nice shape. Nicer than the one in my queue. You could probably save the lighter front with some Go-Jo and maybe a touch of Howard's. The darker sections need to be re-done though. Some would just do the whole thing.
Hi Hunter, yeah the front looks fairly decent but the rest is spotty and the finish is peeling. Does yours have any label decals for the controls on the front?
Philco didn't use decals to denote controls on most models built before 1939, that includes the 610, 620, 623, 625, and 630. The only decal used was a copper foil block letter "Philco" decal above the speaker grille.
