Philco Mini End Table Radio
#1

I just picked up a small inn table radio with a model 91 Chassis. It uses an external speaker. Looks similar to the 19LZX but has the external speaker. Anyone know what model this set goes by?
Thanks,

Hi Joe and welcome to the Phorum. Can you post some photos?

Look in the Philco Gallery:

It sounds like you are describing a 91RX.

No, Kirk, you do not have them because while people go to normal places to find radios you go to search trash and climb roofs.
If I did not know you in person, I'd think you were a cat.

It is similar To the 91RX in the gallery, but mine has solid sides (no speaker cloth) since it uses a remote speaker. It came with a Philco cathedral speaker. I hooked it up today and it plays great. Shadow meter works too. Is there a procedure for adjusting the shadow meter to optimize how narrow it gets with a strong station?
Thanks,
Joe

Was the radio restored/repaired by someone before?
If not, playing it is a bad idea.

Has the radio been recapped recently? If not you risk damaging it by not doing so. Post some pics...you can see how at http://www.philcoradio.com/phorum/showth...p?tid=4371

Schematic for the 91 series is available on Nostalgiaair.org

It has been restored and modified to interface with an older pm Philco speaker in a cathedral cabinet.

First, pictures of jamr005's Philco chairside and the cathedral speaker:

Now, having this information, I know what this is: The chairside is a 14LZX from early 1933.
http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1933a.htm#a

The 14LZX uses the same chassis as model 91. The tube layout sticker inside should state "Model 91 and 14 Series".

Now, the speaker: It is a 1932 model R-3 extension speaker. This speaker was introduced with Philco's new lineup of radios in June 1932. A picture of one may be seen in this site's History section at this link:
