Must be just bad luck on your part? Really a great price and the exterior looks great. The bezel appears to be that famous plastic and might have a piece on the corner missing. Not certain if there are repos for this model available. Nice find.

 Yes, there is a reproduction escucheon available, the 8 pushbutton escutcheon for the 1941 models is available, and the 9 pushbutton ones for the 1942 models is also available. They cost about three times more then this radio cost, four including new buttons and knobs, but the real cost is going to be time spent replacing the rotted rubber wire.
