I saw that yesterday and decided not to post it here....the reasons being

1: cone is done for. Those do not repair well, brittle paper, will have to go.
2. There were no statements as to the field coil and transformer integrity, and each one can be a 50-80 bucks if you pay someone to do it.
And unlike the 20 speaker, feld coil repair is a pain as the pole is pressed in.
So this speaker restored can become 2-3 times the price you would pay for a working one.

I have one, that I got with the chassis for 15 bucks. Still haven't brought myself to restore it. Though so far no need.

 This is one of the reasons why I haven't bothered doing anything with the Philco 90 chassis I have sitting in the basement as yet, unless I find a cabinet with speaker or a slightly rough 90 with same. When you see complete project 90s sell for under $300 but see people pay that much for a speaker with a rough cone, plus shipping, it doesn't make any sense to try piecing a set together from parts. Those were pretty lousy sounding speakers to begin with, the only reason to buy one is to make an authentic factory correct set, for much less then that one could pick up a period Utah, a Magnavox, or a Lansing speaker of the same size, and similar electrical specs, in decent shape. With a Philco 70 this is even more so, there are twice as many 70s as there are 90s out there, and three times as many 20s as there are 90s, all used similar pie pan speakers, except the ones from model 20s had that large nut holding the pole piece in place as Mike (Morzh) stated.

 That's odd, whenever I run into a Philco cathedral in my region, it's usually a model 20 in the "plain brown wrapper" version, I have yet to see a Deluxe version with the quilted maple arch. I saw on on fleabay just tonight, though it may be outside of driving distance to where you are. But in terms of overall production I believe that Philco built 343,000 Baby Grand style model 20s, , I'm not sure what the production numbers were for each version though. There were three console versions, two with just the radio and a third that also had a phonograph, the radio-phono console version is the rarest obviously.

Another poblem with buying 20s is their grillwork that rarely survives shipping.
I do have a 20 Deluxe, and recently eBy had quite a few of them, but only a couple of 20s and those are way up and not in too good a shape.

This problem is too common with Philco 20-70-90 speakers and Model H (those are only ones I have), out of 4 8" ones 2 had it, and from 2 Model H - 1 has it.

And lucky you - 70 speaker has to have the center pole pressed out, no nut.

Mike, through the years I have had six of the 20/70/90 speakers and this is the first time I have had one with an open field coil. At first I thought the output transformer was bad too but, that turned out to be a break in the lead to the plug.

I think the seller will work with me on this.
