Another project 38-10T
#1

Here's my latest project. This thing is much larger than I thought it would be. The cabinet is in pretty good condition no water damage. It clearly needs a speaker, field coil and a dial.  I will post in the parts wanted section for a replacement.

The underside looks like a virgin.

I am sure there will be questions forth coming.

Looks like a good project. Nice and roomy under the chassis. The photo finish might have to be redone. I have stayed away from some radios because of it. I have seen some on here that were redone and look really nice.

Chris,
When you are ready, here's the place for faux-finish . For grill cloth, try Richmond Designs. Good luck Icon_clap

Refaux is good but follow the directions!

I would try restoring it first. Original always looks better.

The Richmond Designs has some nice cloth patterns but I don't which one came on this set. I have seen some 38-10T pictures with a horizontal pattern.  None of Richmond Designs pattern have this horizontal pattern.

And the front is in pretty bad shape. It's lifting all around the edges. I saw that replacement faux-finish stuff and was wondering if it was any good. I had even considered using real veneer but I have never done inlay.

The original speaker being AWL would have turned me off of this particular radio, along with the wiped dial scale, the faux finish less so, but I guess it depends on how much you wanted a Philco bullet model. My preference would be for one of the larger bullet models with the real veneer on the front but I would not turn down a 38-10T for the right price and condition. Right now I have so many sets to restore, table and console, that I've needed become a lot more fussy about what I buy.
Regards
Arran
