Philco 37-61 tuning rod assembly
#1

Hello Phorum,

I'm looking for help finding for the size o-ring that is used on the 37-61 variable capacitor tuning rod assembly.

Welcome to the Phorum!! Icon_wave

Here's a thread on similar dial rod assemblies but I don't recall an o-ring on these. If no one has an answer in the next few days I would just go to the local hardware store and check out the o-rings. Get a few that look close and see which works best.

Ah...had a thought...are you thinking of the C-clip that holds the assembly together?

No the C-clip is still in place. When I removed the assembly I found a small piece of what appeared to be a rubber o-ring in the slot that is at the end of the shaft, as seen in the photo. I maybe wrong. I followed the link to the Philco Repair bench site and the assembly that was mentioned looked like it had a gear on the end of the shaft. My assembly has a groove at the end, which I think would be for a o-ring causing a friction fit to the variable capacitor.

Thanks
Sean

OK, hopefully someone with some experience on the 37-61 will chime in.

I've never heard of - nor seen - any O-rings on any of the Philco ball bearing shaft assemblies that I've worked with.

If Ron ain't seen it..ain't nobody seen it Icon_lol

I'll bet its just some grease that has solidified into that shape OR a prior repair where someone for some reason put an O-ring there...

Thanks guys

I think your right about the dried up grease. Now I have to figure out how this assembly meshes the variable cap. There are two plates at the end of the cap shaft that appear to make contact with the tuner shaft right at the grove at the end. I don't know how much literature is available on Philco parts but the part number of the variable cap is 31 1851H.
