Philco 60B Restoration
#31

I applied the trim color today. I went with Perfect Brown toner but I thought it could be a little darker, so shot a couple of light coats of Extra Dark Walnut. The color is now a deep brown, not black, but darker than a solid brown.

One thing that I noticed is that on the front where I masked off the bottom trim, when I pulled off the tape, there is a definite lighter area where the tape was. Any good ideas as to how to fix that?

Going with the grain (Gently) rub some very fine steel wool over that area and it should blend in the tape line, do it very ( Icon_wave gently) Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf Icon_wtf

Here is the cabinet after I shot a couple of coats of Mohawk E-Z Vinyl Sealer. I wish I would have done a better job with the grain filler. oh well, not bad for the first one though.

Thanks Fred.  I was going to shoot maybe 5 coats of clear then add the decal.  Would that be ok?

Hello Crist, 2 coats of clear would be enough. The more clear over decal the better , it will hide the cut line on decal better. I really like that EZ lacquer vinyl sealer from mohawk, it tends to fill better than there regular sanding sealer and is alot more durable  . Now just sand lighly with 400 and shoot 2 coats of the buffcoat .

OK, I think I'll shoot the topcoat clear tomorrow.  Getting close!

I put on the decal before any top coat was sprayed. I then sprayed on 2 wet coats of Mohawk Buffcote sheen 40 thinned about 60% top coat and 40% Mohawk reducer. When those coats were dry, I lightly sanded then cabinet and then shot 4 more coats. The cabinet is finished. I'll take better pictures later.
