  I went to our club auction here in Dallas and I bid on this 116 Tombstone  and took it home for 190$ You don't see these come around to offen and I really wanted it . Nobs are gone but as far as I can tell everything else is there. This 116 will go in nicely with my other philcos. Restoration will begin soon and if you guys want I can post my progress, I came across a 91 cathedral all intact and will start on that one as well and payed 185$ for that one on ebay plus 35$ shipping, not bad A. Correct toner for 116 tombstone would be what ? Which v pattern cloth is best for 116 tombstone, radio daze or Richman designs ?  Im guessing extra dark walnut around the front face molding and the rest medium walnut for 116 ? Semi gloss or satin ?

Whoa, let's take things one at a time...

Correct toner: Extra Dark Walnut Ultra Classic (dye) toner on the top, sides, and the top, side, and bottom trim surrounding the front panel. This will allow some of the grain to show on the top and sides. Medium Walnut on the front panel itself.

Chevron (V) cloth to use? Richmond Designs.

Semi-gloss or satin? Neither. The original final finish was gloss. If you really don't like high gloss then use semi-gloss, but I would definitely not recommend satin.

To me, the 116B price was a bit on the high side, given its condition, but still not out of reason.

Regarding the 91B, well, that seems to be about the going rate for those.

Ron is right about the gloss, BUT you have to rub it out too. Otherwise it is too reflective. And don't forget the grain filler or you might as well paint it satin.

Russ is absolutely right on this. Gloss lacquer that isn't rubbed out will end up looking a lot like polyurethane.

Yes I can relate to that,  high gloss lacquer is about 90% gloss level until in is wet sanded and buffed, then it will be at 100% gloss and as smooth as glass, is that what should be done on 116?, piano finish. I will grain fill , stain and tone , then  apply clear sanding sealer which will then be sanded lightly then I will clear it using  Mohawk clear instrument lacquer 4 - 5 coats , which is very durable , wet sand with 1200 grit then then polish . 10/4 will do .Thanks
