Just got my 15x
#1

I have been looking for a long while for a nice philco 15x . One popped up yesterday locally and today went and got . Complete and as far as I can tell has not been messed with looks all factory. Powered it up with variac and amp meter and is working fine, does have a hum . It will receive a full going over for max performance and safety. Cabinet is in real nice shape including finish, it is factory finish and will not refinish. I played it briefly and has plenty of power and bass coming from twin speakers. It has a light above the speaker grill area to light up speaker board which I knew was there from my research on this model. I am real excided about this radio and will be displayed next the very rare Philco 23x  If only I can get my hands on a 15dx. The back cover is intact along with the tube shields. The guy I bought it from said his great grandmother purchased it new back in 1932. Truly a fine example of un touched 15x. All for the price of 125$ What a bargain Icon_wave  Icon_wtf  Icon_crazy  Icon_clap

The grill cloth look,s to be very very close to the Philco 90-70 cloth, may be the same pattern ? I have a bran new piece from radio daze that ive been keeping on hand and now I will be using it I guess. The light blub is missing for the outside grill area and am wondering what size and wattage it is.? I haven't gotten the scamatic out yet to see. But I will soon because I am wanting to get it done asap. Im working on two 16b,s right now and have a zenith console, Atwater cathedral, and another console to refinish  soon.

No, that cloth is not the same as the 70-90 cloth. Somewhat similar, but not the same.

The Radio Daze #86 *might* be somewhat similar to the original. I can't tell for sure because the picture is too dark. Maybe that cloth is that dark, and if so, then it would not be a good choice. In that case, 70/90 cloth would be better.

Holy Cow! Nice condition! $125!?! Geeze.
Lived a charmed life until you "rescued" it. :-)

A keeper if I ever saw one. An RF stage, 2 IF stages,
push-pull audio out into dual speakers with
Shadow Meter tuning indicator.

A great 1932-33 "hi-fi" set of its era.

Chuck
