Philco 38-116 shipping questions.
#1

Quick question, I have someone interested in purchasing my Philco 38-116 console radio and they don't live local but would be willing to pay for shipment. Does anyone have any idea what that would cost and what company would be best to use? It is about 44 inches high 28 inches wide and 19 inches deep and pretty D**n heavy, also the chassis just kind of sits in there so I was wondering if there is something that is usually done to hold it in place and better protect everything for shipment?

Thanks, Bill

I shipped a 38-116 (which is the same as the shipping goes) to Ukraine before. By the sea. In any case, the packaging had to be adequate.

If you pack it yourself, you can save about $100. The chassis is best shipped separately, although Greyhound could be OK to ship as a whole.
I would say, probably Greyhound. The price will likely depend on the distance, Willie Z ships this size radios by it for $80 to $100.

Your best bet is to weigh, measure, call Greyhound and ask them what they think it would be.

Check and see what the hard limit is for weight by bus, it's 100 pounds or under if I remember correctly. This means that the chassis will most definitely have to be shipped separately, possibly the speaker and acoustical resonators as well, a 38-116 is not a light cabinet.

A cabinet alone from 37-116 packed as per UPS store specs came out 108 lbs.

I shipped a 37 116 whole by bus. You just pay by the weight.
