Talking House Transmiter

I wasn't sure where to put this but since it related to my Zenith - here it is:

I can remember posts about poor audio quality from these transmitters.

I have had one on the shelf for years. Got it out today to use with the 1000Z (see recent post).
Works great with my Samsung phone which I don't want to leave behind - very distorted on my old Blackberry. You can't turn the level down low enough not  to over modulate. I'll either have to pad it down or use another device. I have heard this complaint before but never tested one to find out why.

Somebody may have already figured this out. But just incase it can help. Seems like the stated 500mv input is wrong.

EDIT - seems that the advertised AGC might be active only in the "cal" mode. So retune the freq and then set it back. It will force it to calibrate.
