42-380 dial cord

Well it's finally come time to replace the dial cord on my 42-380. However the only replacement cords i can find are .030 diameter and .040 diameter. Which one is the one?

I just measured my original 42-380 dial cord. It is .030" diameter.
Dial calipers can be handy.

It's not how bad you mess up, it's how well you can recover.

Do you have an idea as to how to get these clips off the end of the cord? Around the loops? I've tried pliers and everything else and no luck yet

Often people don't try to reuse those clips (if they are what I think you are talking about) they make loops or knots at each end. Here's one thread about it:
