Philco 640 or 650
#1

I recently purchased what was believed to be a Philco model 640B tombstone.  I do not have possession of it as of yet.  It has the strange "flat" band selector knob that appears to be on the model 640 sets.  However, it has an 8 tube chassis with what appears to be a driver stage tube.  Chassis looks to be a model 650.  I should have set later this week.  It may be a 650 that someone placed the wrong knob on??

Did Philco place an 8 tube chassis is some of there model 640 sets?

Thank you for any clarification you can offer.

Dave

If it has eight tubes, four bands, and a horizontal mounting power transformer, it is a model 650.

If it has seven tubes, four bands, and a vertical mounting power transformer, it is a model 640.

The 640B and 650B used identical tombstone cabinets.

And the oddball band switch is correct for the 650. At least, it is for at least some of its production run.

Thank you Ron!  I was happy thinking it was a 640.  Now I am even happier being it is a 650!
