speaker recone
#1

I am interested in finding instructions on rebuilding and reconeing speakers. I have found recone kits on Ebay but no where do I find any instruction! This may turn out to be a great hobby for me.

Sorry, didn't mean to let your question go unanswered...but I don't know where you might find instructions for reconing speakers. I suggest a Google search on the subject.

I've done a little bit of reconing...only 8 inch speakers...but I have had a bit of difficulty finding suitable cones. Nearly all the ones I see have foam surrounds, and the foam will disintegrate in 15-20 years, and doesn't look original anyway. The paper "accordion" surround is what most Philco speakers originally used. Mind you, a Philco 70 speaker with a new foam surround cone sounds great...but doesn't look original.

I would really like to find some cones suitable for reconing those odd-sized Philco 10-1/2 inch speakers.
