Philco model 60 Cathedral
#1

How good are the model 60 units as far as sound, sensitivity etc.
#2

With a thorough recapping and replacement of all off-tolerance resistors, rewinding primaries of antenna and oscillator coils as needed, etc., they are O.K. Not outstanding, but not bad, really. It does well for a five tube set. Just don't expect the performance of a Model 16 or the fidelity of a 38-116 from it. Icon_smile

Well if you were going to jump between a model 60 and something like a 38-89 which one would you choose? I thought about picking up a tombstone or cathedral but I am not willing to jump in with the big dogs on a 16 variant and get eaten alive. Icon_eek

I'd have to go with the 60 only because of ease of service. The 38-89 is probably a better radio with its RF amplifer section, but it has that dreaded "Unit Construction."

Actually, I've noticed 16B tombstones have been going reasonably - even in some cases cheap - on the Bay lately. Seems people would rather have "Log Cabins" of late. Icon_confused
