A couple of weeks ago, I bought a box of aluminum electrolytic capacitors from a fellow on "ARF". They were all twist lock and PC mount. I have a few Philco chassis that were missing the filter caps, one I had robbed for the 90 I just restored and a couple that were missing them already. The plan is to gut the cans, re-stuff and modify the mount to the large threaded stud. Yeah, I know aluminum cans are not original on the early Philcos but I figure aluminum cans look better than empty holes.

I went to the Habitat For Humanity Restore looking for PVC pipe fittings and found these schedule 80 unions for 50 cents each.

I cut the flange of the union down in the lathe to fit inside the aluminum can.

A PVC "close" nipple was screwed into the flange. First the threads had to be re-tapped because the nipple is now screwed in from the opposite side than the hole was originally tapped.

I have not stuffed the cans yet, will do that as I need them, will probably use film caps.
