The radio chasisis and surrounding area inside my 53-1750 get VERY warm - this is from a combination of a 10W resistor and the tubes - has anyone ever installed a cooling fan to keep the components and the general insides of the radio cooler?? I'm thinking it couldn't hurt?? Thnx

These radios were made to work at these temperatures. I am not sure they really require cooling.
And the wattage dissipated by your resistor: if it is the same resistance that whatever you replaced it with had before, it then dissipated the same exact amount of power, and the temperature would be the same.
