42-350 Cabinet - Type of Wood???
#1

Hello All - I recently picked-up a Philco 42-350.  The cabinet needs some repair in two places - veneer on top and fluting on one side.  Hoping someone knows what type of wood this cabinet is made of so I can match it well.  I am thinking Oak, but not 100% sure.  Thanks

The sales brochure says walnut. See p. 37 of the following: https://philcoradio.com/library/index.ph...neup-book/

The molded parts are probably a type of poplar, or alder, I think I would see about patching it with some wooden dowel. Not sure about the veneer but most vintage radio cabinets used French walnut, that type looks like it's quarter sawn.
