1951 Philco radio/record console
#1

We just got a Philco console everything seems to be in working order record player wheel is very dry though going to try trannie fluid to liven it up a bit. We noticed that theres one bulb burning out and the FM frequency is crap..lol. We do live in an apartment but we haven't had problems picking up FM before. Wondering if anyone knew if this is normal for this or is there something wrong Icon_smile

More than likely, it would benefit from a complete replacement of paper and electrolytic capacitors if this has not yet been done. These capacitors deteriorate over time and eventually will prevent your radio from working at all. In the case of electrolytics, if they short out it can also damage expensive components such as power transformers if your set uses one.

If you can pick up FM on a newer radio, then you should have no problem getting FM on your 1951 Philco, once properly restored.
