New roomie is a 37-660
#1

Picked up this clean Tombstone from a local collector getting ready to move. I've been wanting a Shadow Dial for a while. He had a bunch of consoles in really nice shape also, but I was too slow on them. A 37-116X, 37-630, RCA 812K and '37+'40 ten tube Zeniths all went for $60-70 each. Table sets were $10 less. Kinda glad I missed the consoles as I wouldn't have been able to resist and it's getting a bit tricky to move about the house.

Looks to be a very nice set. Someone hee would probably be glad to get it.

Dang! You could just about eat off that chassis. Very Nice!

I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Outstanding find!!!! Those are fairly uncommon cabinets, definitely a keeper!

Got one of them and love it; it's the best radio I've got for DX'ing and listening. Mine came from Ron Ramirez during his rough period and it had the most difficult and unusual problems ever found buried deeply in the RF deck. This one was a fluke; you won't have these problems I'm sure.

Too bad they couldn't have put in a larger speaker.

I'm kind of excited about this one. It's funny how the good finds seem to come in bunches. This area usually only has low end sets and now I get this one and the 116XX in the same month. The auctions have been good to me too recently. Finally got my T.O. Bomber and a like new Mighty Mite.

Life is good. Retired life is better. And with the infamous skunk now in H**l, there is not much to complain about. Well, except that it's 33 degrees with snow in the forecast and I am a MN Twins fan. Piddly stuff.

I'm surprised that the 37-660 tombstone didn't go before the consoles, people usually pass on consoles in favor of table sets. In my opinion you didn't miss much, although the 37-116X and RCA 812K would have been good to get.
The 37-660 is more or less a console chassis in a tombstone cabinet, I think that there were only two higher end table models other then that, the 37-665 and the 37-670.

P.S You need to get rid of the metal tube and at least replace it with a GT, metal tubes in Philcos are just wrong.

Arran, I was surprised too. Especially since a guy there picking up three of the consoles seemed to really know his stuff.

That metal interloper will be 86'd before playing. Consider it a temporary dust cover.

Great acquisition, and a very nice looking set, too. Congratulations! Icon_biggrin Icon_thumbup

I now have a cabinet that once housed a 37-643B (same cabinet as the 37-650/660/665B), and an unrestored 37-650 chassis out in the garage. Eventually, the two will be joined together, along with a K-35 speaker I am saving just for this purpose.

I had honestly forgotten who I sold my 37-660B to. Now, since Pete has it, I know it went to a good home Icon_smile
