37-116 2 different grill cloths?
#1

Working on a 37-116 and I noticed that it had a different pattern of cloth behind the small cutouts. The cloth all looks old and I'm wondering if this is an old repair or was it made this way?

Note from site admin: Sorry, but the photo which was attached to this post is no longer available.

It's an old repair, because neither pattern is correct.

It should have the 1935-37 "V" pattern cloth in all three openings:

Of course, now that this pattern is no longer being reproduced, unless/until someone else begins to reproduce the cloth again, we have to make do as best we can, just like we did before reproduction grille cloth became available.

I knew I should have bought more of the V pattern when it was available. My 116 will have to wait now. Icon_sad

I think I'm gonna cry. A 5' by 7'8" hunk of the cloth went on ebay last month for $260.50

Lets not get nuts about cloth. As long as it is somewhat acousically tansparent and hue and value somewhat match the cabinet you have done well.

That cloth looks like it came from an RCA radio, not correct but it doesn't look bad. I wouldn't panic about the grille cloth, it will go back into production eventually and then the party that paid $260 for a bolt of the Philco chevron cloth will be kicking themselves.

No, it's not a problem, just during certain condition it could show up. Yes, an internal tube short could do that too. ...morzh — 09:13 AM
