inquiry
#1

Total Newbie to vintage radios. I have been asked by a relative to see if these 2 console radios have any value.
Model 650X (as near as I can determine)
Model 41-280

Both are in reasonably restorable shape. My Aunt claims that my uncle listened to them often over the years, but has not for approximately 5. I was reluctant to plug them in and try them, but will soon when I return.
They are located in Myrtle Beach,SC. I am in NY.

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

First off DO NOT PLUG IN THOSE SETS!

You can cause irreparable and permanent damage or
worse.

The sets need to be fully restored by a knowledgeable antique radio repair person.

Find an antique radio club near you. Many clubs offer or have persons who can help you with restoration.

Both sets are "keepers". The 1936 Model 650X is especially a good set - well worth restoring. Value is priceless, since it's in the family.

Same with the 1941 Model 41-280 console. You can't put a value on them, since they are heirlooms. Those sets have a family history and it's good that you're getting them back to working condition.

Monetarily the 650X is worth more then the 41-280 but it's still not a high dollar set. If they have been in the family since new that makes them worth more to you then to someone else. Both are decent performing sets when they are working properly, but the 650X would be easier to work one as it won't need to be rewired.

Arran
