I am attempting my first re-capping job on a 1948 Philco 48-200 radio.
I have come across what I think is a melted capacitor (brown tubular item in center of photo). However, (and I am new so I am not sure), I cannot find this on my schematic of the radio, and I do not know what the capactance is for this item. it attaches at pin 6 to the 50L6GT tube and pin 5 of the 14A7 tube. it is in parellel with a resistor but being such a newbie, I don't know what it's resistance is.
If someone could help me out with this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
Just added new phot of underside of mystery capacitor.
I know I posted this during the in-between period; after the initial changeover and before the change to MyBB, because I was contacted by a member who offered a changer for it, but that post has disappeared, at least a search fails to find it. I also posted a thread with images of the original price tag and a link to a copy of the manual, which I will also re-add.
A couple of weeks ago there was a Magnavox Regency Symphony 155-B on CL. I communicated with the lady and decided to pass on it since I have room for 5 consoles and already had 10. A couple of days later I got a call on my cell phone while on the way home from delivering a radio. It was the same lady and she practically begged me to come see it so I did. After looking it over I again passed on it, at $75. As I started to leave she turned to me and begged me to take it for $40 so I caved.
OK, you guys with these Maggy's forgot to mention how bloody heavy they are! So here we are, me 71 with a bad back and 5 knee operations, my wife with Post-Polio, and this old lady with one good arm. Good thing there was no one around with a video camera!
Anyway, here tis. Interestingly the Jewelry store that sold it, Galperin, is still in business.

i have a 1982 philco series 500 AM/FM/Cassette turntable console.
the cabinet needs a little work but is in decent shape.
the radio and turntable work great but not the cassette.
the door has a piece broken off where the latch catches it
the latch itself is seized and does not move when eject is pressed
my mom got this console brand new and has recently given it to me
i can no find any parts anywhere for it new or used.
i would like to replace the tape mechanism with the door included
this console is definitely worth the investment to fix it.
if anyone can help e it would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently working on a 37-630 table model.
I need to replace or patch the thin veneer strips(3 of them) and I am having trouble getting a color match.
Does anyone know what the color was or should I use something close of my choice?
Thanks
I have a 1013 1942 philco and have replaced all the caps and resistors that were off it worked poorly before I started , but now I'm done and have found the third IF transformer has an open between the red and white wires and have taken it apart and rewired it but the break must be inside a winding ,so I have no radio at all am or fm or sw . is there any way to work around this or are my stuck till I find a replacement its a 7 wire IF philco part # 32-3845 . it plays records great and have had the speaker completely redone . the phono is an Admiral rc 600 with a new cartridge dual 78/33 needle it plays 45's too any knowledge would help

I've studied up on basic electronics and understand resistance, capacitance, resonance, etc., went through an RCA radio course on disc, so I get the basics. But, I would really like to know, for example, why a certain resistor is where it is and why. I would like to look at a schematic and understand what all the components do and how everything ties together. I have a couple of cheap old tube radios that I could experiment on. I've also home-brewed some crystal and one-tube broadcast and SW band radios. I may not be expressing this very well, but I hope you get my drift.
Also, I've heard from several people who say resistors or only about a nickle apiece. Where do you find resistors for $0.05? JustRadios and TubesAndMore are around $0.45 each. Do you buy them by the boxcar load?
I would be happy to hear from anybody on this subject.
Thanks,
lyle
Hello all
Back with a new twist to the "beast" rehab. Apparently the shortwave antenna is missing from this set, among other things. Thanks to Al Corbin the chassis is mostly functional including the Mystery remote. However in trying to assess SW functionality he asked me for antenna loop dimensions to replicate a test antenna. I cannot find one in the cabinet.
Any help getting spec's for this antenna would be greatly appreciated...!
I assume that similar models would use the same antenna so maybe that's an alternative source of information.
Thanks
