Hello, I recently got a Philco model 14 code 221 chairside and a model 17chairside, code is unknown. I was using a schematic for the model 14 code 226 for electronic work, but there are several differences between my set and the schematic.

Are there schematics and associated information available for the model 14 code 226 chairside?

I have not researched it but assume the same is true for the 17 chairside, so same question for the 17 schematics/info.... Also, it appears that the 17 has the standard four pin plug for the speaker and the chassis has the power cable vice the flat multi lead cable that goes from the chassis to the speaker of the 14, so I am wondering if the 17 chassis is the right one for the chairside cabinet.

Hope someone here can help.
I have a Philco 42-395 with a bad power transformer. I found a power transformer in my parts collection that would give me the needed 6.3 fil Volts as well as the center tapped HV windings for the 7Z4 rectifier. BUT, the HV should be about 300-0-300 and this big transformer puts out 385-0-385. It also had 5V windings which I taped off.
I installed the transformer and brought the set up on a Variac (set is fully recapped). It plays fine but after a while the 7Z4 shorts out and shows a cathode short or a plate short or both on my tube tester when I re examine it. ; usually the next time I turn the set on. I've gone through three 7Z4 rectifier tubes and thought the smart thing to do now is ask for help.
Is the HV from this transformer the likely culprit? Is there a way to lower the HV to around 300-0-300 without also lowering the filament voltage which is right where it should be?

How dumb was I to try to use this transformer in place of the original? It's the closest thing I have with enough beef to put out about 4-5amps filament for the 9 loctal tubes...

Thanks for any help or insight.

Here is the schematic.

Some while ago I ran across a web site where an apparently older gentleman sold some pretty nifty aids and tools. I do remember he had a tool that apparently screwed onto the volume control shaft, allowing you to force cleaner into the sealed volume control to clean it. I remember trying to order it, sent a money order only to get it back, where he stated he needed to fabricate some more and was out at the time.

Anyone know who this fellow may be and how to get in touch with him?

One other quick one... Anyone seen or used the chassis tool that you place on your bench top allowing you to more easily work on some of those hard to get to chassis?

Thanks for your replies!
David

Hello, picked up a Philco 38-2670 locally for $20 in very good shape. The dial scale is trashed. I looked at Radio Daze and they list two different dial scales for this model, ie. catalog item DS-A366 and DS-A130. Does any one know if there is a difference?

Also, Nostalgia Air does not list a 38-2670 schematic, but do list the 37-2670... are they the same for both 1937 and 1938?

I have a Philco Model 42-1002 Code 122 that my parents had in the 1940s.

I side the back there is a label which states:
Built for Television Sound
The Wireless Way when used with Philco Television Picture Receiver
Need No Wires, plug in or Connection of any kind.

The wiring and tubes look in pretty good condition except that the power cord is in bad shape.

I am trying to determine if the radio has any value other than it brings back a lot of memories.

Does anyone have any info about this model!

I have a Crosley 148 I'm working on and one of the first problems I've encountered is the Vol pot has some bad spots so the resistance I'm reading is all over the place. Tried cleaning without success so I'm looking to replace it. None of the info I have shows what the Vol pot should be. Any Ideas??? Thanks
Eric

I have recently acquired a 40-160 but the escutcheon covering the dial and 6 push buttons is missing. Does anyone know where I might possibly get these parts?

Hi all, Since this is for a positive ground system (52 Plymouth), when I go to hookup my dc power supply to test it I believe I should connect the red positive lead to the chassis and the black negative lead to the input wire on the radio that has the inline 14A fuse. Is this correct? Do not want to buy another SS vibrator!!! These are polarity sensitive!! Thanks, Ken Kidd
