I electronically restored a 41-295. It has recently developed a crackling sound. It sometimes levels off when it's tuned to a station, but will excite back up when going down the dial. I have replaced almost all the caps except three mica caps, and I've replaced all the resistors. I've probed around looking for sold solder joints or anything loose, but have not found anything conclusive. Besides the crackling it's a fantastic set. Receives well and sounds wonderful. Any tips from the Philco experts out there on this cracking?

This probably is a simple question: however, I'm not sure how and what to connect to the antenna terminals.

I just finished restoring a Philco 38-7 chassis. There are 3 connections for the antenna - Red, Black and Ground.

Question #1 concerns the ground connection. Where do I connect this to get a ground. Can I connect this to the screw, that holds the cover to the power outlet? ( This should be a good ground connection. I also have PVC pipes, not copper.)

Question #2: What kind of antenna do I use - just a long wire, a dipole, or both and where do I connects it? To the Red, Black or both antenna connections?

Thanks

With recent changes to Photobucket in which they apparently no longer allow posting of images to third party sites such as the Phorum, we no longer recommend Photobucket as a host for your images.

I am attempting my first re-capping job on a 1948 Philco 48-200 radio.

I have come across what I think is a melted capacitor (brown tubular item in center of photo). However, (and I am new so I am not sure), I cannot find this on my schematic of the radio, and I do not know what the capactance is for this item. it attaches at pin 6 to the 50L6GT tube and pin 5 of the 14A7 tube. it is in parellel with a resistor but being such a newbie, I don't know what it's resistance is.

If someone could help me out with this, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Just added new phot of underside of mystery capacitor.

Here are images of an original price tag for a 1947 Magnavox Regency Symphony 155-B as well as a link to download a PDF copy of the original operating manual.

Link for manual:

If you print these images on oaktag at their original size, you can cut them out and make a hangtag for your display.

I know I posted this during the in-between period; after the initial changeover and before the change to MyBB, because I was contacted by a member who offered a changer for it, but that post has disappeared, at least a search fails to find it. I also posted a thread with images of the original price tag and a link to a copy of the manual, which I will also re-add.

A couple of weeks ago there was a Magnavox Regency Symphony 155-B on CL. I communicated with the lady and decided to pass on it since I have room for 5 consoles and already had 10. A couple of days later I got a call on my cell phone while on the way home from delivering a radio. It was the same lady and she practically begged me to come see it so I did. After looking it over I again passed on it, at $75. As I started to leave she turned to me and begged me to take it for $40 so I caved.

OK, you guys with these Maggy's forgot to mention how bloody heavy they are! So here we are, me 71 with a bad back and 5 knee operations, my wife with Post-Polio, and this old lady with one good arm. Good thing there was no one around with a video camera! Icon_eek

Anyway, here tis. Interestingly the Jewelry store that sold it, Galperin, is still in business.

i have a 1982 philco series 500 AM/FM/Cassette turntable console.
the cabinet needs a little work but is in decent shape.
the radio and turntable work great but not the cassette.
the door has a piece broken off where the latch catches it
the latch itself is seized and does not move when eject is pressed
my mom got this console brand new and has recently given it to me
i can no find any parts anywhere for it new or used.
i would like to replace the tape mechanism with the door included
this console is definitely worth the investment to fix it.

if anyone can help e it would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently working on a 37-630 table model.
I need to replace or patch the thin veneer strips(3 of them) and I am having trouble getting a color match.
Does anyone know what the color was or should I use something close of my choice?
Thanks
