Philco T-9
#1

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with the Philco T-9 Shortwave radio. I did a a Google search and not much came up. How do (did) they compare to the Zenith Transoceanic series shortwaves? Are there any mechanical woes that I should be aware of before purchasing one? Any what is a reasonable price on one of these in good condition? Thanks. Rich

Nothing much out of the ordinary, in terms of trouble--they need their lytics replaced, just like any transistor radio of the same period.

They're much larger than the 1000 series, and they perform at the same level. Pretty good tone, if I remember correctly.

Good radio. Check for excessive corrosion in the battery compartment, good antenna and handle and condition of leather covered case.

Some claim the Zenith performs better. There's probably not much difference if both are properly aligned.

The book stowed in the lid adds value. Figure on $50-$125, depending on condition. Recent prices may be higher.
