If you were to use a capacitor to drop the voltage first then you could rectify the rest without losses or much losses.
Also tube rectifiers drop some voltage due to the higher plate impedance.
People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
