Nice Radio,
I have the 39-116 with the remote. I have the radio working I recapped it and replace a lot of the rubber wire. 
It is a good reciever and the audio is very good. I think the 39-55 has the same audio as the 39-116. 
The 39-116 has a shortwave band and that is the only diff I think. So I think you will like the sound of the radio. I do. I need to get the remote working but I am lazy I guess. 
I have to get a battery before I can check it tho.
