I think if you have actual corrosion the only good way to do the first cleaning is something abrasive, like a small round file, or sandpaper, or....
Then you follow with some protection, like your Deoxit etc. People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
