Unknown Philco 610
#1

Hi,

I found this Philco 610, but the cabinet is unknown.
The cabinet is original or not?

The plate on the chassis would identify it as an export set, the cabinet may have been made locally or may have been made in Philadelphia. I don't think that the speaker is a Philco unit however, the normal 610 would have used a standard table model speaker that would have been of the 8'' pincushion style.

The 610b doesn't use an 8" speaker like most baby grands. It's smaller like in the 50, 51 and 80. The speaker in that cabinet is identical to the one in my 610

The speaker looks correct to me - the USA 610B used a 5 inch speaker that looks just like that one.

The cabinet may, or may not, have been modified. I seriously doubt that the cabinet was made in the USA, although the chassis clearly was. The cabinet may have been made in Perivale, UK.

Take a look at the French 2620B "Philco-Super-Radio" that I used to own:

The chassis in this set was also made in USA. I cannot prove that the cabinet was made in Perivale, but it looks similar to some UK Philco tombstones of the time.
